November

November

Progress Reports have been distributed for our first term!  We have been busy this term and have been working on the following:

Math: We have continued to learn about Numbers. We have learned about multiplication, fractions and are currently learning about decimals.

Language Arts: We have covered a lot in LA this past month. Students continue to learn about Narrative Writing, and we have just finished our section on suspenseful writing.  Next it’s on to learning about how to write the Main Event of a fictional story!  Students have also been practicing their writing skills during our Daily 5 activities, proof-reading activities and during journal writing. They spend time reading during Daily 5, DEAR and throughout the day during other subjects.

Science: Grade 3 students have been learning all about Building with a Variety of Materials, while the Grade 4 students have been focusing on Simple Machines. We have completed two experiments in each grade to enhance learning. I am excited to be planning a couple more experiments before we move onto our next topics in Science.

Social Studies: Grade 3 students have been learning about Goods and Services of Ukraine, Tunisia, Peru and India. Grade 4 students have been learning all about the Natural Resources in Alberta.

Religion: During the month of November, we have been focusing on how we can be the hands, feet and eyes of Jesus to do His work.  Students have taken part in many group discussions and role play activities to enhance learning.

Health: In health class, we have been focusing learning about the best ways to respond to bullying behavior and the difference between assertive, passive and aggressive behavior. Students are currently working in groups to create a play to demonstrate ways to respond to bullying behavior in assertive ways.

Music: During Music class, we have been learning about music from around the world.  We will begin to practice for the Christmas Advent celebration this week. Students attend Hymn Sing with the rest of the elementary community to further enhance their music education.

Phys. Ed: Mr. Tran and Mr. Christiensen have been working with the students indoors to increase their physical ability and stamina.

French: Grade 4 students attend French class in Mr. Silva's class.

Art: Mrs. Teichroeb teaches our class Art 2 periods in a 6-day cycle. We welcomed Mrs. Lecuyer into our class this past week. She led a class in creating beautiful ballerina silhouettes with snowflake skirts.  To accompany our artwork, students wrote poems about snowflakes.
