February
We
are officially half way through the year!
St.
Stephen’s elementary students from Grade 1-6 enjoyed taking swimming lessons
January at Trico Centre. Canadian Tire
Jumpstart funded these lessons. The last day of lessons was January 25th.
Math: We have been
learning about Statistics and Probability in math class. Students have been learning how to read,
label and construct bar graphs, line plots and number charts. Will be tackling pictographs shortly.
Language Arts: We have covered a lot in LA this past month. We continue to work on our unit on grammar where students are sharpening their grammar skills. We are finishing our book study on Owl Moon, where we have studied how to make inferences, visualize and summarize text. Students continue to practice their writing skills during our proof-reading activities and during journal writing. They spend time reading DEAR and throughout the day during other subjects, and use Tumblebooks and Raz Kids on the chrome books.
Science: Grade 3 students have been learning all about Testing Materials and Designs, while the Grade 4 students have been focusing on Building Devices and Machines that move. We have completed several experiments in each grade to enhance learning.
Social Studies: Grade 3 students have been learning about Traditions and Celebrations of Ukraine, Tunisia, Peru and India. Grade 4 students have been learning all about Fossils and Paleontology in Alberta.
Religion: During the month of February, we continue to focus on the Kingdom of God and how we are all a part of His kingdom. Students have taken part in many group discussions to enhance learning.
Health: In health class, we have been focusing learning about road safety as both pedestrians and when they are riding bikes.
Music: During Music class, we are continuing to learn about music from around the world. Students attend Hymn Sing with the rest of the elementary community to further enhance their music education.
Phys. Ed: Mr. Tran and Mr. Christiensen have been working with the students indoors to increase their physical ability and stamina.
French: Grade 4 students attend French class in Mr. Silva's class.
Art: Mrs. Teichroeb teaches our class Art 2 periods in a 6-day cycle.
